Explanation of the design:
Akamatutu Te Reo Maori Kuki Airani i te Whanganui a Tara
– Strengthen Cook Islands Maori at Te Whanganui a Tara

There are three distinguished patterns, first one is a whanau based pattern, the middle one is a spear design, it can be used also as a way of direction, action, goals, every one moving in the same direction on a certain project.

The third one is a design for people, individuals as well as doing their part to improve as an individual, ultimately improving the community.

The stylized sharp black swerve is a stylized adze, toki.
Mostly used to endeavour for new things, venture forth. The colours match the ocean of the Cook Islands with its different shades of blue and the vibrant colours of the motu of the north and mountains and lagoons of the south.
